This 600-hour therapeutic massage and bodywork program is aligned with the
highest standards recommended by national accreditation organizations and
with the newest standards set by the National Certification Board for
Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and the State of New Jersey. The
curriculum provides an excellent foundation program that integrates massage
and bodywork with health care, an approach that is advancing rapidly. First,
the developing therapist is guided in a wellness module that integrates
principles of self awareness, body mechanics and foundations of therapeutic
touch. Cultivating touch is a theme that runs through the program. Sensitivity
is enhanced on the physical perceptive level as the student’s understanding of
human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and psychology are developing. The
differentiating focus of The School of Integrative Therapies comes in the
second semester as the student becomes focused on the therapeutic modalities
to be blended with the western health care system. Principles of physical
assessment, the scientific principles of therapeutic massage, medical
terminology, record keeping, developing care plans and special population
needs are linked with a variety of massage techniques. It includes lecture,
lecture demonstration, and more hours of hands-on learning opportunities than
most area programs. Externships and off-site events allow for practical
learning. This course will provide the individual with the skills needed to be an
effective massage therapist. After the successful completion of this 600-hour
program, the student will be qualified to become certified by the State of New
Jersey's Board of Nursing and to sit for the National Certification Examination
in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
