SHIATSU
Certification Program
~Learn the ancient healing art of Shiatsu
~ 160-hour curriculum
~ 5 month Continuing Ed Program for Massage Therapists
~ Taught by Aiken Edwards, LMT
This 160-hour, 5 month program is aligned with the highest
standards recommended by national accreditation
organizations and with the newest standards set by the
National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and
Bodywork.  The curriculum provides an excellent
Continuing Education Program in an ancient healing
technique.  Shiatsu is based upon the Five Element Theory,
and seeks to uncover imbalances that a client may be
experiencing.  By understanding concepts of Traditional
Chinese Medicine, the therapist gains knowledge and
techniques to help restore balance, well-being and health to
their clients.

Shiatsu affects the flow of electromagnetic energy through
meridians or pathways of the body.  The goal is to
normalize the movement of energy throughout this system.
Areas of blocked energy, excess energy, or deficient energy
are identified by the practitioner and addressed using a
combination of pressure points, muscle mobilization and
stretching.  Signs of energy blockages or imbalances may
include musculoskeletal pain, disturbance of organ function,
general fatigue, and weakened immunity.   In this program,
the history and principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine
will be thoroughly explored.  Many hands-on techniques
will be demonstrated and practiced by participants.
Topics covered include:
~  Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine including Five  Element Theory and organ imbalances
~  Meridians and Effective Points
~  Evaluation: The Four Observations, and Contraindications
~  Shiatsu Techniques, Manipulations, Passive & Active Exercises
~  Palpation, Muscle & Joint Mobilization, Stretching
~  Ethics & Professionalism, Code of Conduct
~  Marketing Your Shiatsu Practice
~  and much more…

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Aiken Edwards, LMT studied at The Swedish Institute in New York City nearly a decade ago.
While a student, Aiken had the privilege of studying under Reggie Caesar who trained at The
Ohashi Institute.  During this time, Aiken was exposed to advanced techniques and philosophies
of traditional Eastern manual therapy, including Shiatsu.  Over the years, he has developed an
effective and efficient style.  His dedication to continuing his own studies enables Aiken to
introduce his students to the most advanced levels of thought regarding the nature of our own
healing potential.
